Retail Meditation

Posted by Jacinta Hin on May 16, 2007

I left the planet for the afternoon.

I went shopping with a girlfriend for an outfit to wear for an upcoming formal party. In the midst of a busy workweek, I abandoned all my duties and roamed the galaxy of dresses and shoes.

An afternoon of pure delight. No other thoughts than those related to size, color, style and appearance.

My weekends on the beach are very similar. I am merely enjoying the sea, windsurfing and the company of my fellow surfers.

As a former office junkie and workaholic I appreciate those hours away from it all. These are the moments I simplify my experience and empty my mind. I get recharged with fresh energy.

These are also moments where I just am. There is no past and no future. No guilt, no stress, no worries. No to-do lists occupying mental space.

I had no idea I would love shopping. It was a last-minute survival mission. I never shop, am a jeans and t-shirt person and possessed just one, not very flattering dress.

Now I am the proud owner of a dress that looks good on me.

And I discovered the joy of retail meditation.

I am already planning my next shopping retreat, ofcourse under the expert guidance of my elegant friend.
